Tao places a device in the hands of the U.S. Government that allows them to enter the Bleed, where it exploded, damaging a vessel of an alien race and starting an interdimensional war. Florida is almost completely laid to waste when an accident in the Bleed destroys a massive ship of very powerful and big aliens. The Authority determines that the US Government was responsible for the accident. Because of the government's cavalier actions the Authority moves in and takes over the United States.
